God desires fellowship with His creation. The Bible, God’s revelation of Himself and His plan, is the basis for our relationship with God. Before we look more at what the Bible is I want to lay a bit more of a foundation.
How important is the Bible?
Job 23:12 – I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.
Psalm 138:2 – I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.
Romans 10:17 – So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Job considered God’s words more important than the food which kept his physical body alive. It was revealed to the Psalmist that God had magnified His Word above His own name. Paul reminded the Christians in Rome that faith comes by hearing the Word of God. By determination, revelation and declaration God’s Word is seen to be of utmost importance.
For some though the question is not of importance but of integrity and reliability. Let me briefly list 8 reasons why I believe we can trust the Bible.
- I believe the Bible because of its internal consistency.
- I believe the Bible because of its prophetical accuracy.
- I believe the Bible because of its archaeological accuracy.
- I believe the Bible because of its anthropological accuracy
- I believe the Bible because of personal experience.
- I believe the Bible because of its preservation.
- I believe the Bible because of its scientific accuracy.
- I believe the Bible because it is infinitely better than any of the alternatives.
Having looked at why I believe the Bible is important and briefly why I believe it is reliable I think the natural question is this:
