It’s a Boy!

Well, I praise God for our baby son born just a few hours ago. Samuel Martin Wickens arrived today. He weighed in at 8lbs 13oz.

We went in for a regular check up this morning and Carrie’s blood pressure was something like 138/106. The baby was due yesterday and that combined with Carrie’s bp caused them some concern. Within a few minutes they had taken us up to the ward and about 15 minutes later we were in the delivery suite and they were inducing Carrie. This was about 12:15 pm by this time.

It was a hard day for her. At one stage things seemed to be going well, but then things took a turn for the worst. The baby’s heartbeat went down very low, and it stayed very low. I could tell something was wrong and within moments they were rushing her to surgery for an emergency c-section.

It was the worst ten minutes of my life. I could only cast all my care on the Lord and leave it with Him. I felt like breaking down, it was an awful few minutes. Then I heard it, Samuel’s first cry as he was delivered! At that point I was still very concerned for Carrie, but I wanted to cry with relief that Samuel was okay. By the noise he was making I could tell he was fine.

Samuel weighed in at an impressive 8lbs 13oz. It turns out the chord had wrapped around his neck and that had caused complications.

Carrie and Samuel are both resting now. Samuel just seems happy, Carrie is sleeping via morphine.

Please continue praying for both.

I cannot express how much I praise the Lord for bringing mother and baby through this. We had almost decided not to call him Samuel, but when I heard his cry I knew Samuel was the perfect name. Samuel – God hears, asked of God

“…she bare a son, and called his name Samuel, [saying], Because I have asked him of the LORD.” – I Samuel 1:20
