Last night several members of the church met in the school room and we prepared to head up to the village to sing carols. Brimpton is small with about 600 residents according to the 2001 census.
We left the church and parked at the memorial and sang a carol there to get ourselves warmed up a little. Then we walked round to our first stop on Hatch Lane. In the past the people in the homes there have enjoyed the carols and it has become one of our three “traditional” stops. From there we walked round to the main housing area, which only really includes about 60 homes at the most. At this stop we had several listening and one lady in the village joined in with us as we sang “O Little Town of Bethlehem”.
Our last stop is always at Mrs. Strutt’s home. Mrs. Strutt is 90 and for as long as I can remember, and long before I was born, has been a great witness and encouragement to all she meets. We sang a few carols for her and concluded the evening in prayer.
For me it was a special blessing last night as Ashleigh came along for the first time. I remember singing carols with the church in the village when I was very young and now to be able to take my children to do the same thing is an indescribable blessing. God has been good to us.
