“Together” – Romans 8:28

All things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to His purpose. – Romans 8:28

This is one of the best known and most comforting passages in God’s Word. The word ‘together’ suggests a doctor’s prescription, composed of various drugs mixed together, in order, by their individual action upon each other, and their general action when combined, to produce a medicine which shall prove beneficial to the patient.

Thus it is in God’s providential dealings with us. Our lives are made up of sunshine and shadow, mirth and sadness, success and failure, health and sickness, riches and poverty. In the life of all God’s children there are some of those ingredients working for good, because prepared and prescribed by the Great Physician of souls.
